The Brontes-The Teenage Years-Part 2

The Napoleonic wars were a major inspiration for the imaginary worlds of the Brontes, and the Duke of Wellington and his brother Arthur Wellesley, lightly disguised, were among the characters deployed. Romantic themes were as important as the military and political, and Charlotte’s male avatar the Duke of Zamorna was a cynical Byronic adulterer. Needless to say, in imaginative games children always envisage themselves as the leaders of society, powerful, wealthy, aristocratic and above convention – and this was the end of the Regency period, after all, when for male aristocrats, and not a few females, sexual freedom was the norm. It was Wellington himself who, approached by a blackmailer with a kiss-and-tell-story, replied ‘Publish and be damned!’ In the 1820’s, only the merchant classes tried to hide such things. Victorian prudery had yet to make its impact. If imaginary world role-play continues beyond childhood, the constraints of real life may perhaps be felt as tiresome, unpleasant or deeply unfair. Patrick Bronte himself did not approve of make-believe worlds, or indeed of novels, and in one of his own moralistic published stories wrote: The sensual novelist and his admirer are beings of depraved appetites and sickly imaginations, who having the art of self-tormentingare diligently and zealously employed in creating an imaginary world, which they can never inhabit, only to make the real world, with which they must necessarily be conversant, gloomy and insupportable.

Quote For The Day By ~S.A.R.K.~

“Building your “dream life” is filled with things that can feel like the opposite of a dream:
Mistakes
Delays
Starting over
Failure

The building part is actually more of a rebuilding that is a continual process. The building is not linear in nature but far more interesting. You might start a creative dream, take the “next step”, and find yourself completely bored, dissatisfied, or just not inspired. ”

Daily Card: Two Of Staves Reversed

Two Of Staves Reversed-Description Of The Card: New business ventures that lack forward movement after a really great start. Disappointment in projects. Frustration or impatience. Needing help.

Two Of Staves Reversed-Interpretation Of The Card: There is a lot of frustration and disappointment around this card when it is reversed. Have you been trying very hard to get a new business venture going and it has been one obstacle after another? It started out with a bang and was going very strong in the beginning. Now, it feels like it is slowing down and your clientele are loosing interest in your business. Do not give up! This is the first thing I want to encourage you to do, is not to give up. Businesses fluctuate all the time. They are like riding the Wheel Of Fortune. You are up and running one day and then deader than a door nail the next day. New business ventures require a great deal of sticking to it to keep it going. You can not set in stone your plans for the future and how it will go. You have to ride the Wheel Of Fortune up and down, being careful to hold on to some of your resources when it is up to help in the times that it goes down. This card also says it is time to consult with others as well. Get some fresh ideas going. Ask other business owners what they do to help boost business. This can be invaluable. You can promote each other’s businesses, by placing a flyer where your customers will see it as well. A new twist on how you do business or the services you offer can breath new life into a business as well. Maybe a new marketing technique to add to the marketing you are already doing to let others know about your business and what it offers them. Keep adding different ways of reaching people. Blogging, social media, email campaigns, business cards, brochures, flyers, run special deals for your business or services, mugs with your business logo on them, if you can, pay for some advertising to let people know what you have to offer. The bigger your audience, the more customers you will attract. Consult with someone older than you and more experienced, this can be an invaluable resource for information. In America, we have an Retired Association Of Business Owners, who are retired and used to run a business. They are a wealth of knowledge, experience and information. If you do not have something like this where you are, I know you have old people in your community who would be more than willing to pass on their wisdom and experience to you. Our elders are an invaluable source of help and wisdom and most are happy to help you out and watch you grow!

The Brontes-The Teenage Years-Part 1

For the next five years there was no more schooling, other than that provided by Patrick and Aunt Branwell. The make-believe worlds became even more important, with Branwell and Charlotte immersed in ‘Glasstown’ and then ‘Angria’, and Emily and Anne in ‘Gondal’. In the course of their imaginings they produced a huge number of miniature books, in a tiny script based on print. Much of the content was highly derivative, based on their voracious reading of novels, poetry and periodicals such as Blackwell’s Magazine. These collaborative imaginative games continued even into their adult lives, especially in the case of Emily. It was simultaneously a strength and a weakness, the way in which they learned the writer’s craft but perhaps also a way of fending off reality. If as adults they ignored their neighbours while out walking, it was probably not because they were rude (though Charlotte was certainly a snob) but because they were totally engaged in another world, an imaginative world fuelled by authors we no longer read, such as Scott, Byron, ‘Monk’ Lewis and the German Romantic writers. Other people, in the ‘real’ world, simply did not exist. Gondal and Angria had the same kind of hold over them as computer worlds have on some teenagers today. They might even have been familiar with the avatar. Walter Scott described Napoleon escaping from St. Helena as ‘a third avatar of this singular emanation of the Evil Principle’.

Quote For The Day By ~Lauren Oliver~

“It’s so strange how life works: You want something and you wait and wait and feel like it’s taking forever to come. Then it happens and it’s over and all you want to do is curl back up in that moment before things changed.”
— Lauren Oliver (Delirium (Delirium, #1))

Daily Card: Seven Of Cups Upright

Seven Of Cups Upright-Description Of The Card: Distracted by thoughts of what is coming up in the future. Daydreams and Fantasies. Decisions need to be made to move forward so life can get back to normal again.

Seven Of Cups Upright-Interpretation Of The Card: Cups are the suit of love and relationships. This card is speaking of a decision needing to be made in a love and relationship situation. Are you spending your days dreaming about all the different possibilities this relationship could develop into? Are these thoughts filling you head to the point you are having a hard time getting your daily duties completed? The Seven Of Cups speaks of having all these different choices and wondering which one should I make or which one will be the outcome of my choice? There is a sense of fear here as well about not making the right choice. Each cup is filled with a different outcome or possibility. You must either choose one of the cups or wait for the outcome to present itself and then you know the decision has been made. No matter how the cup is chosen, this decision is going to affect your love life or relationship in a big way. The temptation is the put off the decision, if you must make it. It is safer to just live in the fantasy and enjoy the excitement. Unfortunately, If you must make a decision, it is time to choose and move forward. It would be great to spend your life in a state of fantasy and daydreams with all the wonderful possibilities to the outcome of this situation. But, it is time to make a decision and rejoin the world again!
